Best Things to Do in Lake Como

While Lake Como may not have the same name recognition as the popular Geneva Lake, rest assured you will be able to do many of the same activities and see beautiful historic mansions from the former’s waters. French Country Inn lies just a few feet from the waters of Lake Como, making this lake one of our guests’ favorite places to relax on their vacation.

Water Sports

French Country Inn has its own boat launch for smaller watercraft like kayaks and paddleboards. If you bring your own smaller boats, you can take off from right behind the inn! Additionally, there are two public boat landings to take advantage of if you are out and about. But what if you don’t own any watercraft and need to rent some? Let’s go over some of the most convenient rental companies in the area.

Kayak Rentals, Pontoon Rentals, and Paddle Board Rentals

Unlike Geneva Lake, Lake Como doesn’t have a huge rental scene. Thankfully, we have our own boat rentals onsite, which can make your search incredibly convenient and easy. If you want smaller watercraft like kayaks and paddleboards, you’ll either need to rent them in town or bring your own.

Clear Water Outdoor

Address: 328 Wrigley Dr, Lake Geneva, WI

Hours: Order your boards and boats online and pick them up at this location.

Clear Water Outdoor is on the banks of Geneva Lake, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take their rentals and bring them to Lake Como for a day. They offer smaller boats like canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards.

Wake the Lake

Address: 529 W Main St, Lake Geneva, WI

Hours: 9AM - 8PM

Wake the Lake should be your go-to place for pontoons. You can rent them for a week, a day, or as long as you need them! It’s just in town and not too far from the French Country Inn.

Fishing

It may go without saying, but fishing on Lake Como is incredibly popular! While on other fishing trips you may have unlucky days with no catches, that’s not the case on our beautiful lake. There’s an abundant amount of largemouth bass and other freshwater fish waiting to bite.

Fishing Regulations

Be aware that you can’t just fish all of these to your heart’s content. There are limits on how many of each fish you can catch, so take a look at them here.

Fishing License

Be sure that you have purchased a fishing license so you don’t get in trouble with any authorities. The license prices will range anywhere from $8 - $65 depending on your residency and length of time you plan on fishing during your vacation.

Ice Fishing

If you love fishing all year round, then staying at the French Country Inn is perfect for you. Not only can you fish in the spring, summer and fall, but you can walk out onto the ice for a wholly new fishing experience.

Make sure the ice is thick enough to walk on before you go out, and bring the equipment and clothing you need to stay comfortable. Take a look at this ice fishing packing list.

What’s the difference between Geneva Lake and Lake Como?

Geneva Lake is a busier and more trafficked lake. As such, you’ll find more boaters here, more mansions, and more restaurants on the coast. It’s also substantially deeper and larger.

Lake Como on the other hand, is much quieter and more scenic. The natural scenery is perfect for a chill vacation, and will give plenty of opportunities to snooze on the shore in peace. Lake Como has a depth of around 9 feet, yet you can still pontoon, kayak, paddleboard, and fish to your heart’s content.

We look forward to your stay on the beautiful Lake Como. Take a look at some of our other popular attractions on our
